What would happen to your family if you suddenly became seriously ill and could not work for several months, or years? If you passed away at this time, what would happen to your family's finances? Or, if you are in business, what would happen to your business if your key man or partner died suddenly? You like doing business with your partner, but would you like doing business with your partner's spouse? These are not things we want to consider. We think of premature death or disability as something happening to someone else.
As your financial advisor, I strongly recommend you examine your own preparedness for these risks. Even current retirees need to consider the financial risk of a serious illness or nursing home confinement. The time to do that checkup is now, while you are healthy. If you wait, the only thing that happens is that you get older!

The 2010 spokesperson for National Life Insurance Awareness Month is actress Leslie Bibb, whose recent credits include roles in films such as Iron Man 2, Confessions of a Shopaholic, and Talladega Nights: the Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Leslie was just three when her dad died in a work-related accident at age 39. After the accident, Leslie’s mother was faced with having to raise four girls on her own. Her mother continued to work to provide for her daughters, but her financial situation was greatly eased by the proceeds from her husband’s life insurance. With money not being a major concern, Leslie’s mother was able to focus on keeping the family together and meeting her daughters’ everyday needs. “My father never thought he’d die at such a young age, but he loved his family enough to expect the unexpected,” says Leslie. Sometimes the experiences of others can serve as a motivation for us. Check out the video and other downloads at right, and share them with family members who might be reluctant to discuss life insurance.
The booklet at left is a handy guide to life insurance in general: how to determine how much you need, what kind to buy, and how to buy it. It is short and to the point - let me know if you have any questions.
